Patty Melt Ingredients

Method

Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onion

Slice the onion thinly. In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter and add the onions. Cook, stirring occasionally, until they are caramelized and golden brown, about 10-15 minutes.

  2. 2

    Make the Patty

In a bowl, season the ground beef with salt and black pepper. Form it into a patty that is slightly larger than the bread slices.

  3. 3

    Cook the Patty

In the same skillet, add the patty and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side until it reaches your desired doneness. Place a slice of American cheese on top of the patty during the last minute of cooking to let it melt.

  4. 4

    Assemble the Patty Melt

Spread butter on one side of each slice of rye bread. On the non-buttered side of two slices, layer the grilled onions, the cheeseburger patty, and then top with the other two slices of bread, buttered side up.

  5. 5

    Grill the Sandwich

In the skillet, place the assembled sandwiches and grill until golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side. Press down gently with a spatula for even grilling.

  6. 6

    Serve

Once grilled to perfection, remove from the skillet, slice in half, and serve hot.
