Patty Melt Ingredients

Method

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onions

Slice the onion into thin rings. In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté until they are soft and caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

In a bowl, season the ground beef with salt and pepper. Divide it into two equal portions and shape each portion into a patty.

  3. 3

    Cook the Patties

In the same skillet used for the onions, add the remaining tablespoon of butter. Increase the heat to medium-high, and cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they reach the desired doneness.

  4. 4

    Assemble the Patty Melt

Place a slice of American cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt. On a separate skillet or griddle, butter one side of each slice of rye bread. Place two slices, buttered side down, on the skillet. Top each with a cheesy patty, some sautéed onions, and then place the remaining slices of bread on top, buttered side up.

  5. 5

    Grill the Sandwich

Grill the sandwiches over medium heat for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and crispy, and the cheese is fully melted.

  6. 6

    Serve

Remove from the skillet, cut in half if desired, and serve hot.
