Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Pound the beef round steak to about 1/2 inch thickness using a meat mallet. Cut into serving-sized pieces.

  2. 2

    Set Up Breading Station

In one bowl, mix together the flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and egg.

  3. 3

    Bread the Steak

Dip each piece of steak first into the buttermilk mixture, then into the flour mixture, coating evenly. Repeat for all pieces.

  4. 4

    Fry the Steak

In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the breaded steak pieces and fry until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  5. 5

    Make the Gravy

In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium and add 1 cup of flour to the remaining oil. Whisk continuously for about 2-3 minutes until the flour is golden brown. Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring until the gravy thickens. Season with additional salt and pepper to taste.

  6. 6

    Serve

Place the fried steak on plates and generously spoon the country gravy over the top. Enjoy!
