Dough and Filling

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

In a small saucepan, heat milk and 1/2 cup of butter until warm (about 110°F). Remove from heat, stir in the yeast and let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of flour, sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture and eggs, mixing until well combined. Gradually add remaining flour until a soft dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.

  4. 4

    Prepare the Filling

In a bowl, mix together brown sugar, cinnamon, and the remaining melted butter. If using, stir in the raisins.

  5. 5

    Roll Out the Dough

Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle (about 16x24 inches). Spread the cinnamon-sugar filling evenly over the dough.

  6. 6

    Shape the Rolls

Starting from one long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased baking dish.

  7. 7

    Second Rise

Cover the rolls with a towel and let rise again until doubled, about 30-45 minutes.

  8. 8

    Bake

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.

  9. 9

    Prepare the Frosting

While the rolls are baking, you can prepare the frosting by mixing powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  10. 10

    Serve

Once baked, remove from oven, drizzle with frosting and serve warm with whipped butter.
