Method
Preparation
- 1
Toast the Bread
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the thick-sliced bread on a baking sheet and toast in the oven for about 10 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- 2
Cook the Meat or Veggie Burger
If using meat, heat it in a skillet over medium heat until warmed through. For a veggie burger, follow the package instructions to cook it until golden brown.
- 3
Prepare the French Fries
While the bread is toasting, cook the frozen French fries according to package instructions, typically in an oven or fryer until crispy.
Cheese Sauce
- 4
Make the Cheese Sauce
In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually add the milk, whisking continuously until the mixture thickens (about 5-7 minutes). Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth.
Assembly
- 5
Assemble the Horseshoe
On each slice of toasted bread, layer the cooked meat or veggie burger. Generously pour the cheese sauce over the top. Finally, add a generous portion of crispy French fries on top of the cheese sauce.
