Cooking Pasta
- 1
Boil Pasta
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes, until al dente.
- 2
Drain Pasta
Once cooked, drain the macaroni and set it aside.
Making Cheese Sauce

- 4
Make Roux
Add the all-purpose flour to the melted butter, whisking continuously for about 1-2 minutes until lightly golden to form a roux.
- 5
Add Milk
Gradually pour in the milk while whisking to avoid lumps. Continue to whisk until the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes.
- 6
Add Cheese
Reduce heat to low and stir in the cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.
- 7
Season Sauce
Season the cheese sauce with salt, black pepper, mustard powder, and paprika. Stir well to combine.
Combining
- 8
Combine Pasta and Sauce
Add the drained macaroni to the cheese sauce, stirring until all the pasta is coated evenly.
- 9
Serve
Serve immediately while hot. Optionally, you can sprinkle extra cheese or breadcrumbs on top and bake for a crispy finish.
