Chicken and Gravy

Method

Chicken and Gravy Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Chicken

Season the chicken thighs with salt and black pepper. Dredge each thigh in all-purpose flour, ensuring they are fully coated.

  2. 2

    Fry the Chicken

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the floured chicken thighs and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.

  3. 3

    Make the Gravy

In the same skillet, add diced onion and sliced mushrooms. Sauté until softened, about 5 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.

  4. 4

    Add Liquids

Pour in the chicken broth and bring to a simmer. Stir in heavy cream and fresh thyme. Allow the mixture to thicken for about 5 minutes.

  5. 5

    Combine Chicken and Gravy

Return the fried chicken to the skillet, ensuring they are well-coated with the gravy. Top with crumbled bacon and Swiss cheese. Cover and let cook until cheese melts, about 2-3 minutes.

Buttermilk Biscuits Preparation

  1. 6

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).

  2. 7

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 8

    Cut in Butter

Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. 9

    Add Buttermilk

Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the buttermilk. Stir until just combined. Do not overmix.

  5. 10

    Shape the Biscuits

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times. Pat it into a 1-inch thick round. Use a biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits.

  6. 11

    Bake

Place the biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
