Prepare the Onions
Peel the onions and slice them into thick rings, about 1/2 inch thick. Separate the rings and set them aside.

Make the Beer Batter
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually whisk in the beer until the batter is smooth and well combined. Let it rest for about 15 minutes.

Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or a deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches about 350°F (175°C).

Mix the Sauce
In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, hot sauce, lemon juice, paprika, and garlic powder. Stir until all ingredients are well mixed and the sauce is smooth.

Serve the crispy onion rings hot with a side of the spicy dipping sauce.
