Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Make the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Add the frothy yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until the dough starts to come together.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let the Dough Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
Toppings Preparation
- 5
Prepare the Pineapple
If using fresh pineapple, peel, core, and cut it into rings or chunks. Grill the pineapple slices on a grill or grill pan for about 2-3 minutes per side until caramelized.
- 6
Assembling the Flatbread
- 7
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat.
- 8
Shape the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness. Transfer it to a baking sheet or pizza peel if using a pizza stone.
- 9
Add the Toppings
Spread BBQ sauce evenly over the dough. Layer the grilled Canadian bacon and grilled pineapple on top. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
- 10
Bake the Flatbread
Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and the crust is golden brown.
- 11
Garnish and Serve
Remove from the oven, garnish with fresh basil leaves, slice, and serve warm.
