Bread Pudding
Caramel Custard Sauce
Method
Bread Pudding
- 1
Prepare the Bread
Tear the stale bread into bite-sized pieces and place them in a large mixing bowl.
- 2
Make the Custard Mixture
In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
- 3
Combine Bread and Custard
Pour the custard mixture over the torn bread. Gently fold the bread into the custard until all pieces are well coated. Allow to sit for at least 30 minutes to let the bread absorb the custard.
- 4
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Bake
Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
Caramel Custard Sauce
- 6
Prepare the Caramel
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine granulated sugar and water. Stir until the sugar dissolves, then stop stirring and let it boil until it turns a deep amber color.
- 7
Add Cream and Butter
Remove from heat and carefully stir in the heavy cream and butter. The mixture will bubble up, so be cautious. Stir until smooth.
- 8
Finish the Sauce
Add the vanilla extract and stir to combine. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
