Prepare the Calamari
Rinse the calamari rings under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.

Make the Breading
In a bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

Bread the Calamari
Dip each calamari ring into the wet mixture, allowing excess to drip off, then dredge in the flour mixture until well coated.

Fry the Calamari
Carefully place the breaded calamari rings into the hot oil in batches, frying for about 2-3 minutes until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, red pepper flakes, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer.

Simmer the Marinara
Let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally until it thickens slightly.

Finish with Fresh Basil
Stir in the chopped fresh basil right before serving.
