1. Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt until well combined.

Mixing the Dough

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add the activated yeast mixture along with olive oil. Stir with a wooden spoon until a dough begins to form.

4. Knead the Dough

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. If the dough is sticky, add a little more flour as needed.

First Rise

5. Let Dough Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Shaping and Second Rise

6. Shape the Dough

After the first rise, punch down the dough to release excess air. Shape it into a loaf or divide it for smaller rolls.

7. Second Rise

Place the shaped dough into a greased loaf pan or on a baking tray. Cover again with the towel and allow it to rise for another 30-45 minutes.

Baking

8. Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

9. Bake the Bread

Once the dough has risen, bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

10. Cool the Bread

Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
