Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Mix Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the flour along with olive oil.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let the Dough Rise
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Assembling and Baking
- 5
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
- 6
Shape the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle or circle, about 1/2 inch thick.
- 7
Add Toppings
Transfer the shaped dough onto a baking sheet. Arrange the sliced tomatoes and mozzarella cheese evenly over the dough. Season with salt and drizzle olive oil on top.
- 8
Bake the Bread
Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
- 9
Garnish and Serve
Once baked, remove from the oven and sprinkle fresh basil leaves over the top. Allow to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
