Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Rinse the Rice

In a fine-mesh strainer, rinse the long-grain rice under cold running water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and prevents the rice from being sticky.

  2. 2

    Chop Optional Ingredients

If using, finely chop the garlic, onion, and bell pepper. Set aside.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Sauté Aromatics

In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped garlic, onion, and bell pepper. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes or until the vegetables are soft and fragrant.

  2. 4

    Add Rice

Add the rinsed rice to the pot and stir well to coat the rice with the oil and vegetables. Cook for another 2 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  3. 5

    Add Water and Salt

Pour in the water and add the salt. Stir to combine, then bring the mixture to a boil.

  4. 6

    Simmer the Rice

Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid. Allow the rice to simmer for about 18-20 minutes, or until all the water is absorbed and the rice is tender.

  5. 7

    Fluff and Serve

Once cooked, remove the pot from heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes. Then, fluff the rice with a fork and serve hot.
