Ingredients
Milanesa
Pomodoro Sauce
Toppings
Prepare the Milanesa
1. Tenderize the Beef
Use a meat mallet to gently pound the beef cutlets to about 1/2 inch thickness for even cooking.
2. Season the Flour
In a shallow dish, mix the all-purpose flour with salt and black pepper.
4. Prepare the Breadcrumbs
Place the breadcrumbs in a third shallow dish.
5. Bread the Cutlets
Dredge each beef cutlet in the seasoned flour, dip in the egg wash, and finally coat with breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
6. Fry the Cutlets
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Fry the breaded cutlets for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Drain on paper towels.
Make the Pomodoro Sauce
7. Sauté Garlic
In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
8. Add Tomatoes
Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes and stir to combine.
9. Season the Sauce
Add salt, sugar, dried oregano, and black pepper. Stir well and let simmer for 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
10. Finish with Basil
Stir in the chopped fresh basil just before serving.
Assemble the Dish
11. Layer the Milanesa
On each fried cutlet, place a slice of ham and a generous amount of shredded mozzarella cheese.
12. Top with Pomodoro Sauce
Spoon the warm pomodoro sauce over the ham and cheese topped cutlets.
13. Melt the Cheese
If desired, place the assembled cutlets under a broiler for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
14. Serve
Serve the Milanesa Napolitana hot, garnished with additional fresh basil if desired.
