Method

Bread Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix the dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, and melted butter. Add the yeast mixture and milk, and mix until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead the dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    First rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  5. 5

    Shape the bread

Punch down the risen dough and divide it into portions for buns or shape into a loaf for Texas toast. For cornbread muffins, mix in cornmeal and pour into muffin tins.

  6. 6

    Second rise

Let the shaped dough rise again for about 30 minutes until puffy.

  7. 7

    Preheat oven

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  8. 8

    Bake

Bake the buns or bread for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. For cornbread muffins, bake for 15-20 minutes.

  9. 9

    Cool and serve

Remove the bread from the oven, let it cool slightly, and serve warm.
