Pasta

Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Boil the Pasta

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.

  2. 2

    Drain the Pasta

Once cooked, reserve about 1 cup of the pasta water, then drain the spaghetti in a colander. Set aside.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 3

    Sauté Aromatics

In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and chopped onion, cooking until the onion is translucent and fragrant, about 5 minutes.

  2. 4

    Add Tomatoes

Stir in the crushed San Marzano tomatoes. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

  3. 5

    Season the Sauce

Add chopped fresh basil, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes to the tomato mixture. Allow the sauce to simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. 6

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

After the sauce has thickened slightly, add the drained spaghetti to the sauce. Toss to coat the pasta evenly, adding reserved pasta water as needed to reach desired sauce consistency.

  5. 7

    Serve

Serve the spaghetti marinara hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese and additional fresh basil if desired.
