Method

Preparing the Marinara Sauce

  1. 1

    Sauté Garlic

In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  2. 2

    Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer and let cook for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Preparing the Cheese Filling

  1. 3

    Mix Cheese Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, grated Parmesan cheese, salt, black pepper, and chopped parsley. Mix well until smooth and creamy.

Cook the Lasagna Noodles

  1. 4

    Boil Noodles

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and lay flat on a sheet of parchment paper to prevent sticking.

Assembling the Lasagna

  1. 5

    Layer the Ingredients

In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom. Place 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread half of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles, then add a layer of marinara sauce, followed by a layer of mozzarella cheese. Repeat this process, creating 5 layers in total, ending with marinara sauce on top followed by the remaining mozzarella cheese.

Baking the Lasagna

  1. 6

    Preheat Oven

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. 7

    Bake

Cover the lasagna with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Serving

  1. 8

    Cool and Serve

Let the lasagna cool for about 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired before serving.
