Cooking the Pasta
- 1
Boil Water
Fill a large pot with water and add 1 tablespoon of salt. Bring to a rolling boil over high heat.
- 2
Cook Spaghetti
Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions (usually 8-10 minutes) until al dente. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- 3
Drain Pasta
Once cooked, reserve a cup of pasta water, then drain the spaghetti in a colander.
Making the Bolognese Sauce

- 5
Add Garlic
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- 6
Brown the Meat
Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef. Cook, stirring frequently, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
- 7
Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Stir in the canned tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, and season with salt and black pepper. If using red wine, add it now.
- 8
Simmer the Sauce
Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally. If the sauce is too thick, add reserved pasta water to reach desired consistency.

Combine Pasta and Sauce
Add the drained spaghetti to the sauce and toss to combine. Allow it to cook together for an additional 2 minutes.
- 10

Plate the spaghetti and top with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves. Serve immediately.
