Method
Preparing the Bread
- 1
Slice the Bread
Using a serrated knife, slice the baguette or Italian bread into about 1/2 inch thick slices.
- 2
Preparing the Topping
- 3
Chop the Tomatoes
Core and chop the fresh tomatoes into small cubes. If desired, remove the seeds to avoid excess moisture.
- 4
Prepare the Basil
Wash the fresh basil leaves, pat them dry, and then chiffonade (thinly slice) them.
- 5
Mince the Garlic
Peel and finely mince the garlic cloves.
- 6
Mix the Topping
In a medium bowl, combine the chopped tomatoes, chiffonaded basil, minced garlic, balsamic vinegar, salt, and black pepper. Gently toss until well combined. Let the mixture sit for 10-15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Assembling the Bruschetta
- 7
Top the Bread
Spoon the tomato mixture evenly over the grilled bread slices.
- 8
Serve
Serve immediately while the bread is warm and crispy.
