Fresh Orange Juice
Method
Fresh Orange Juice
- 1
Prepare oranges
Wash the oranges thoroughly under cold water. Roll each orange on the countertop applying firm pressure with your palm to soften and loosen the juice inside.
- 2
Cut and juice
Cut each orange in half crosswise. Using a citrus juicer (manual or electric), juice all orange halves into a measuring cup or bowl. If you prefer pulp-free juice, strain the extracted juice through a fine mesh sieve into a clean pitcher, pressing gently to extract as much liquid as possible.
- 3
Adjust sweetness and balance
Taste the fresh juice. Stir in the granulated sugar and a pinch of sea salt; the salt brightens flavor. Add the 1 cup cold water to slightly dilute the juice for a balanced flavor (adjust between 1/2 to 1 cup to taste). Stir until the sugar dissolves. If you prefer no added sugar, skip the sugar and simply add water to taste.
- 4
Chill and serve
Fill two glasses with ice cubes (about 1/2 cup ice per glass). Pour the prepared orange juice over the ice. Garnish each glass with a sprig of fresh mint if using. Serve immediately for best flavor.
- 5
Storage
Transfer any leftover juice to an airtight container and refrigerate. Consume within 48 hours for best freshness. Stir or shake gently before serving as natural separation may occur.
