Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Beef
Slice the beef sirloin into thin strips, about 1/4 inch thick. Season with black pepper and salt to taste. Set aside.
- 2
Chop Vegetables
Slice the bell peppers into thin strips and chop the onion into slices. Mince the garlic cloves.
Cooking
- 3
Cook the Beef
In a large skillet or wok, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the beef strips and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes, or until browned. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
- 4
Sauté the Vegetables
In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the sliced onions, bell peppers, and minced garlic. Stir-fry for 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are tender but still crisp.
- 5
Combine Ingredients
Return the cooked beef to the skillet with the vegetables. In a small bowl, mix the soy sauce, cornstarch, and beef broth until smooth. Pour this mixture over the beef and vegetables in the skillet.
- 6
Thicken the Sauce
Stir everything together and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken. Add crushed red pepper flakes for heat, if desired.
- 7
Serve
Remove from heat and serve hot over rice or noodles, garnished with additional black pepper if desired.
