Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the ramekins

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease four ramekins with butter and lightly dust with flour to prevent sticking.

Making the Cake Batter

  1. 2

    Melt chocolate and butter

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the unsalted butter and semisweet chocolate chips. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until fully melted and smooth.

  2. 3

    Mix dry ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, and salt.

  3. 4

    Combine mixtures

Once the chocolate and butter mixture is smooth, let it cool slightly. Then, add the eggs, egg yolks, and vanilla extract, whisking until well combined. Gradually fold in the dry ingredients until just combined.

Baking the Cakes

  1. 5

    Fill the ramekins

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling each about 2/3 full.

  2. 6

    Bake

Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes or until the edges are set but the center is still soft.

  3. 7

    Cool briefly

Remove the ramekins from the oven and let them cool for 1-2 minutes. Run a knife around the edge of each ramekin to loosen the cake.

  4. 8

    Invert and serve

Carefully invert each ramekin onto a plate and gently lift it off. Serve immediately with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side.
