Long Island Mix

Garnish & Ice

Method

Prepare & Build

  1. 1

    Chill glass (optional)

If you prefer a colder drink, place a highball or Collins glass in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice while you prepare the ingredients.

  2. 2

Fill a shaker or mixing glass halfway with ice. Add the vodka (0.5 oz), light rum (0.5 oz), gin (0.5 oz), tequila (0.5 oz), and triple sec (0.5 oz).

  3. 3

Add fresh lime juice (0.5 oz) and simple syrup (0.25 oz) to the shaker.

  4. 4

Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for about 8–10 seconds to chill and combine the spirits and citrus. Note: Some bartenders prefer to build the drink directly in the serving glass without shaking; shaking mellows the high-proof spirits and integrates the lime.

  5. 5

Remove the chilled glass from the freezer or discard the ice used to chill it and fill the glass with fresh ice cubes.

  6. 6

Strain the shaken mixture into the glass over the fresh ice.

  7. 7

Top gently with cola (about 3 oz) to taste. Stir once very gently with a bar spoon or straw to integrate the cola without overly flattening it.

Garnish & Serve

  1. 8

Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim or floated on top.

  2. 9

Serve immediately with a straw. Warn guests: this is a strong drink — consume responsibly.
