Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare glass

Fill a highball or Collins glass with ice to chill while you mix the drink.

  2. 2

    Build the drink

In a cocktail shaker (or mixing glass) filled halfway with ice, pour 2 oz vodka, 3 oz cranberry juice, and 1 oz grapefruit juice. If you prefer a slightly more tart profile, increase grapefruit juice to 1.25 oz; for sweeter, reduce grapefruit juice to 0.75 oz.

  3. 3

    Mix

Shake vigorously for about 8–10 seconds to chill and combine the ingredients well. If you used a mixing glass, stir briskly for about 15 seconds instead.

  4. 4

    Serve

Discard the ice from the chilled serving glass if desired, then fill the glass with fresh ice. Strain the shaken mixture into the glass over the fresh ice.

  5. 5

    Garnish and finish

Garnish with a lime wedge on the rim or a thin grapefruit slice if available. Serve with a straw. Taste and adjust: add a splash more cranberry for sweetness or a squeeze of lime for brightness.
