Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare glass

Select a highball or Collins glass (10–12 oz). Fill the glass with ice cubes to chill while you prepare the drink.

  2. 2

    Build the drink

Discard any excess water from the ice-filled glass if necessary. Pour 2 oz blanco tequila over the ice, then add 4 oz fresh orange juice. Do not stir after adding the grenadine in the next step.

  3. 3

    Add grenadine for sunrise effect

Slowly pour 0.5 oz grenadine syrup down the inside edge of the glass or gently over the back of a spoon so it sinks and gradually rises, creating the characteristic layered sunrise gradient at the bottom of the glass.

  4. 4

    Garnish and serve

Garnish with an orange slice on the rim and a maraschino cherry (optional). Serve with a straw inserted slightly to the side so the guest can stir if desired. Enjoy immediately.
