Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Potatoes

Wash and scrub the Russet potatoes thoroughly. Slice them into thin rounds using a mandoline slicer or a sharp knife.

  2. 2

    Soak the Slices

Place the potato slices in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and makes the chips crispier.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to ensure the temperature is accurate.

  4. 4

    Fry the Chips

Remove the potato slices from the water and pat them dry with paper towels. Carefully add a handful of potato slices to the hot oil, being careful not to overcrowd the pot. Fry until they are golden brown and crispy, about 3-5 minutes.

  5. 5

    Drain and Season

Using a slotted spoon, remove the chips from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain. While they are still hot, sprinkle with salt, paprika, garlic powder, and black pepper to taste.

  6. 6

    Serve

Let the chips cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your house made chips warm or at room temperature.
