Fried Okra Ingredients
Method
Fried Okra Preparation Directions
Prepare the Okra
Wash the fresh okra under cold water and cut off the tops and tails. Slice the okra into 1/2-inch rounds.
Make the Batter
In a large bowl, combine the cornmeal, all-purpose flour, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Mix well.
Prepare the Coating
In another bowl, whisk together the egg and buttermilk.
Coat the Okra
Dip the sliced okra into the buttermilk mixture, then dredge it in the cornmeal mixture until well coated.
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
Fry the Okra
Carefully add the coated okra to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Serve
Serve the fried okra hot, with optional dipping sauces if desired.
