Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onions

Slice the medium onion thinly. In a skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the onions and sauté until they are caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Season with a pinch of salt and set aside.

  2. 2

    Shape the Patties

In a bowl, season the ground beef with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Divide the beef into three equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, approximately 1/3 pound each.

  3. 3

    Cook the Patties

In the same skillet used for the onions, add a little more butter as needed and increase the heat to medium-high. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until they are cooked to your desired doneness.

  4. 4

    Melt the Cheese

During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of Swiss cheese on each patty and cover the skillet to help the cheese melt.

  5. 5

    Toast the Texas Toast

In another skillet, spread the remaining butter on one side of each slice of Texas Toast. Toast the bread over medium heat until golden brown on both sides.

  6. 6

    Assemble the Patty Melt

On the unbuttered side of one slice of Texas Toast, place the cheesy patty, followed by a generous amount of the sautéed onions. Top with another slice of Texas Toast, unbuttered side down. Repeat for the remaining patties.

  7. 7

    Serve

Cut the patty melts in half and serve hot with your favorite side dishes.
