Main Ingredients

Coconut Sauce

Toppings (optional)

Method

Preparation of Sticky Rice

  1. 1

    Soak Sticky Rice

Rinse the sticky rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.

  2. 2

    Steam Sticky Rice

After soaking, drain the sticky rice and place it in a steamer lined with cheesecloth. Steam for about 30-40 minutes until the rice is translucent and sticky.

Cooking Taro or Banana

  1. 3

    Prepare Taro or Banana

If using taro, peel and cut it into bite-sized pieces. If using banana, peel and keep them whole or cut into halves.

  2. 4

    Steam Taro or Banana

Place the taro pieces or banana in the steamer with the sticky rice during the last 10-15 minutes of steaming.

Making Coconut Sauce

  1. 5

    Combine Ingredients

In a saucepan, combine the coconut milk, sugar, salt, cornstarch, and water. Mix well until cornstarch is dissolved.

  2. 6

    Cook Sauce

Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly until it thickens slightly and is smooth. Remove from heat.

Assembly

  1. 7

    Serve

Place a portion of sticky rice on a plate, add the steamed taro or banana on top, and drizzle with coconut sauce. Add optional toppings if desired.
