Cake Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Cake
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and flour a round cake pan.
- 2
Melt Chocolate
In a heatproof bowl, melt the dark chocolate over a pot of simmering water, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- 3
Cream Butter and Sugar
In a large mixing bowl, cream together the unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- 4
Add Eggs
Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is well incorporated before adding the next.
- 5
Combine Ingredients
Stir in the melted chocolate. Gently fold in the flour and cocoa powder until just combined.
- 6
Bake the Cake
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- 7
Cool and Assemble
Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Once cooled, slice the cake in half horizontally, spread apricot preserves between the layers and on top.
- 8
Serve
Serve slices with whipped cream on the side.
