Method
For the Mozzarella Sticks
- 1
Prepare the Cheese Sticks
Cut the mozzarella cheese into 3-inch long sticks if not already pre-cut.
- 2
Set Up Breading Station
In three separate shallow bowls, place the flour, beaten eggs, and a mixture of breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
- 3
Bread the Cheese Sticks
Dip each mozzarella stick first into the flour, then into the eggs, and finally coat with the breadcrumb mixture. Make sure to coat evenly.
- 4
Freeze the Cheese Sticks
Place the breaded mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 1 hour to help them hold their shape while frying.
- 5
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- 6
Fry the Cheese Sticks
Carefully add a few cheese sticks at a time to the hot oil and fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- 7
Serve
Serve hot with marinara sauce for dipping.
For the Marinara Sauce
- 8
Sauté Garlic
In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic cloves and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- 9
Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and sugar. Bring to a simmer.
- 10
Simmer the Sauce
Let the sauce simmer on low heat for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 11
Serve
Serve warm alongside the mozzarella sticks.
