Mashed Potatoes

Method

Meat and Vegetable Preparation

  1. 1

    Brown the Meat

In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.

  2. 2

    Sauté Vegetables

Add chopped onion, diced carrots, and minced garlic to the skillet with the beef. Cook until the onions are translucent and the carrots are tender, about 5-7 minutes.

  3. 3

    Add Peas and Seasoning

Stir in the frozen peas, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for another 5 minutes. Remove from heat.

Mashed Potato Preparation

  1. 4

    Boil Potatoes

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the cubed potatoes and cook until fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes. Drain the potatoes.

  2. 5

    Mash Potatoes

Return the drained potatoes to the pot. Add butter, milk, salt, and black pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy.

Assembly and Baking

  1. 6

    Layer the Filling

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). In a baking dish, spread the meat and vegetable mixture evenly across the bottom.

  2. 7

    Top with Mashed Potatoes

Spread the creamy mashed potatoes evenly over the meat and vegetable layer. Use a fork to create a textured surface.

  3. 8

    Bake

Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.

  4. 9

    Serve

Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your homemade Shepherd's Pie!
