Method

Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. The batter will be thick.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water to the batter. This will thin it out and make it smoother.

  6. 6

    Pour and Bake

Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Once baked, allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then, transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frosting Preparation

  1. 8

    Make the Frosting

In a medium bowl, beat together the softened butter and cocoa powder until smooth.

  2. 9

    Add Sugar and Milk

Gradually add the powdered sugar and milk to the cocoa mixture, beating until the frosting is light and fluffy. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  3. 10

    Frost the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cool, spread the frosting on top of one layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides of the cake.

  4. 11

    Serve

Slice the cake and serve it to enjoy your rich and decadent chocolate cake!
