Make the Batter
In a mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, ground black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Whisk until well combined.
- 3
Add Soda Water
Gradually add cold soda water to the dry ingredients, whisking until the batter is smooth and free of lumps. The batter should have a thick but pourable consistency.
Frying
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or a pot, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Coat the Onion Rings
Dip each onion ring into the batter, letting any excess drip off. Make sure each ring is well coated.
- 6
Fry the Onion Rings
Carefully place the coated onion rings into the hot oil. Fry in batches to avoid overcrowding, cooking for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- 7
Drain and Serve
Remove the fried onion rings with a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
