Method
Marinating the Fish
- 1
Prepare the Marinade
In a bowl, combine the Mr. & Mrs. Crab Special Seasoning and lemon juice.
- 2
Marinate the Tilapia
Place the tilapia filets in the marinade and let them sit for at least 30 minutes to absorb the flavors.
Preparing the Batter
- 3
Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt.
- 4
Add Water
Gradually add water to the dry ingredients, whisking until the batter is smooth and free of lumps.
Frying the Fish
- 5
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 6
Batter the Tilapia
Remove the tilapia filets from the marinade, allowing excess marinade to drip off, then dip each filet into the batter, coating evenly.
- 7
Fry the Filets
Carefully place the battered tilapia filets into the hot oil. Fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
- 8
Drain the Filets
Once cooked, remove the filets from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Serving
- 9
Plate the Dish
Serve the fried tilapia filets hot, accompanied by cocktail sauce, tartar sauce, and your choice of side.
