Method

Marinating the Fish

  1. 1

    Prepare the Marinade

In a bowl, mix the Mr. & Mrs. Crab Special Seasoning with lemon juice. Make sure the seasoning is well combined.

  2. 2

    Marinate the Catfish

Coat the catfish filets in the marinade. Cover and let them marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

Preparing the Batter

  1. 3

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir until well mixed.

  2. 4

    Prepare the Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk the egg and buttermilk together until smooth.

  3. 5

    Combine the Batter

Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until you achieve a smooth batter.

Frying the Fish

  1. 6

    Heat the Oil

In a deep skillet or fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 7

    Batter the Catfish

Remove the marinated catfish from the refrigerator. Dip each filet into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated.

  3. 8

    Fry the Catfish

Carefully place the battered catfish filets in the hot oil. Fry for 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Work in batches if necessary.

  4. 9

    Drain the Fish

Once cooked, remove the catfish from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Serving

  1. 10

    Prepare the Plate

Serve the fried catfish with cocktail and tartar sauce on the side. Include a choice of side such as fries or coleslaw.

  2. 11
