Method
Preparation
- 1
Press the Tofu
Wrap the firm tofu in a clean kitchen towel or paper towels. Place a weight on top, such as a heavy pan, and let it press for 15-20 minutes to remove excess moisture.
- 2
Cut the Tofu
Once pressed, cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes or rectangles, about 1-inch thick.
Coating
- 3
Prepare the Coating
In a bowl, combine cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Mix well until evenly distributed.
- 4
Coat the Tofu
Gently toss the tofu cubes in the cornstarch mixture until each piece is well-coated. Shake off any excess cornstarch.
Cooking
- 5
Heat the Oil
In a large non-stick skillet or frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until shimmering.
- 6
Fry the Tofu
Carefully add the coated tofu cubes to the hot oil in a single layer, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
- 7
Drain the Tofu
Once cooked, transfer the crispy tofu to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.
Finishing Touches
- 8
Season the Tofu
In a small bowl, mix soy sauce and lemon juice. Drizzle this mixture over the crispy tofu and toss gently to coat.
- 9
Garnish and Serve
Transfer the tofu to a serving dish, sprinkle with chopped green onions and sesame seeds if desired, and serve immediately.
