Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix the Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine whole wheat flour and salt. Gradually add water while mixing with your hands until the dough begins to come together.

  2. 2

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a clean surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes. Add a tablespoon of oil while kneading until the dough is smooth and elastic.

  3. 3

    Rest the Dough

Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes. This allows the gluten to relax, making it easier to roll out.

Cooking the Paratha

  1. 4

    Divide the Dough

After resting, divide the dough into equal-sized balls (about 8-10 depending on size preference).

  2. 5

    Roll Out the Paratha

Take one dough ball and flatten it between your palms. Dust it with flour and roll it out into a thin circle using a rolling pin.

  3. 6

    Create Layers

Brush a little oil on the rolled-out dough and fold it over to create a semi-circle. Then fold again to form a triangle. Roll it out again gently to flatten.

  4. 7

    Cook the Paratha

Heat a tawa or non-stick pan over medium heat. Place the rolled paratha on the hot pan and cook for about 1-2 minutes or until small bubbles appear.

  5. 8

    Fry the Paratha

Flip the paratha and brush ghee or oil on the cooked side. Cook for another 1-2 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Repeat with the remaining dough balls.

  6. 9

    Serve

Serve the plain parathas hot with your choice of curry, yogurt, or pickles.
