Marinade

Method

Marinade Preparation

  1. 1

    Combine the Marinade

In a large bowl, mix together the yogurt, minced garlic, grated ginger, lemon juice, ground cumin, ground coriander, garam masala, turmeric powder, chili powder, and salt.

  2. 2

    Marinate the Lamb

Add the cubed lamb to the marinade mixture, ensuring all pieces are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight for maximum flavor.

Cooking the Lamb

  1. 3

    Grill the Lamb

Preheat your grill or oven to high heat. Thread the marinated lamb cubes onto skewers (if using a grill). Grill the lamb for about 10-15 minutes, turning occasionally until browned and cooked through. Remove from skewers and set aside.

Sauce Preparation

  1. 4

    Sauté Onions

In a large skillet or pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.

  2. 5

    Add Garlic and Ginger

Stir in the minced garlic and grated ginger, cooking for another 2 minutes until fragrant.

  3. 6

    Add Tomatoes

Pour in the crushed canned tomatoes and stir well. Cook for approximately 10 minutes, allowing the sauce to simmer and thicken.

  4. 7

    Add Cream or Coconut Milk

Lower the heat and add the coconut milk or heavy cream. Stir to combine and let it simmer for an additional 5 minutes.

  5. 8

    Combine Lamb with Sauce

Add the grilled lamb pieces to the sauce, mixing well. Cook for another 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together. Adjust salt to taste.

Garnishing and Serving

  1. 9

    Garnish

Sprinkle freshly chopped cilantro over the top of the lamb tikka masala.

  2. 10

    Serve

Serve the lamb tikka masala hot with basmati rice or naan bread.
