Dough Preparation

Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt.

Knead Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.

First Rise
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
Cooking Naan

Prepare Garlic Topping
While the dough is rising, finely mince the garlic cloves. If using, chop the cilantro and set aside.

Shape Naan
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 6 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball and then flatten it with your hands or a rolling pin into an oval shape.
