Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Take the top sirloin steak out of the refrigerator and let it come to room temperature for about 30 minutes. This helps in cooking the steak evenly.

  2. 2

    Season the Steak

Pat the steak dry with paper towels. Sprinkle salt, black pepper, and garlic powder evenly over both sides of the steak. Drizzle olive oil on both sides and rub the seasonings into the meat.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Preheat the Grill or Pan

If using a grill, preheat it to high heat. If using a pan, heat a cast-iron skillet or heavy-bottomed frying pan over medium-high heat until it is very hot.

  2. 4

    Cook the Steak

Place the seasoned steak onto the hot grill or pan. For medium-rare, cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side without moving it. Flip the steak and cook for another 4-5 minutes on the other side. Adjust the time depending on your desired doneness.

  3. 5

    Add Optional Toppings

If using, add a tablespoon of butter and chopped herbs during the last minute of cooking. Spoon the melted butter over the steak for added flavor.

  4. 6

    Rest the Steak

Remove the steak from the heat and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute for a more tender steak.
