For the Mozzarella Sticks
For the Marinara Sauce
Method
For the Mozzarella Sticks
Prepare the Cheese
Unwrap the string cheese and cut each stick in half to make 24 shorter sticks.
Set Up Breading Station
In three separate bowls, arrange the flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
Bread the Cheese Sticks
Dredge each mozzarella stick in flour, then dip into the beaten eggs, and finally coat with breadcrumbs. Make sure they are evenly coated.
Chill the Sticks
Place the breaded mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes to help them hold their shape while frying.
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the oil over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
Fry the Cheese Sticks
Carefully add the frozen mozzarella sticks to the hot oil in batches, frying for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
For the Marinara Sauce
Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer.
Simmer the Sauce
Reduce the heat and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened.
Finish with Fresh Basil
Stir in fresh basil right before serving for added flavor.
