Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Prime Rib

Remove the prime rib roast from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 1 hour before cooking. This helps ensure even cooking.

  2. 2

    Season the Roast

In a small bowl, mix together the kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, chopped rosemary, and chopped thyme. Rub the olive oil over the roast and then coat it evenly with the seasoning mix.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).

  2. 4

    Searing the Roast

In a large skillet over medium-high heat, melt the butter. Once melted, sear the prime rib roast on all sides until browned, about 3-4 minutes per side.

  3. 5

    Roasting

Transfer the seared prime rib to a roasting pan and place it in the preheated oven. Roast for 15 minutes at 450°F, then reduce the temperature to 325°F (163°C) and continue to roast for about 45-60 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches your desired doneness (130°F for medium-rare).

  4. 6

    Resting

Remove the prime rib from the oven and let it rest for 15-20 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute.
