For the Onion Rings

Method

For the Onion Rings

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into thick rings, about 1/2 inch thick. Separate the rings and set them aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Mix well. Gradually add the ice-cold water while whisking until the batter is smooth and thick.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test if the oil is ready by dropping a small amount of batter into it; if it sizzles and bubbles, the oil is hot enough.

  4. 4

    Batter the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, ensuring it is well coated. Allow any excess batter to drip off.

  5. 5

    Fry the Onion Rings

Carefully place the battered onion rings into the hot oil in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

For the Remoulade

  1. 6

    Combine Ingredients

In a medium bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, chopped capers, chopped parsley, lemon juice, and garlic powder until well combined.

  2. 7

    Season the Remoulade

Add salt and black pepper to the mixture to taste. Adjust the seasoning as necessary.
