Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Steak

Take the New York Strip Steak out of the refrigerator and let it rest at room temperature for about 30 minutes. This helps to ensure even cooking.

  2. 2

    Season the Steak

Generously season both sides of the steak with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Make sure to pat the seasoning into the meat for better flavor absorption.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Heat the Pan

In a heavy skillet or cast-iron pan, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium-high heat until it's shimmering but not smoking.

  2. 4

    Cook the Steak

Carefully place the seasoned steak into the hot pan. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side without moving it to develop a nice crust.

  3. 5

    Flip the Steak

Using tongs, flip the steak to the other side and cook for another 4-5 minutes for medium-rare, adjusting time for your preferred doneness.

  4. 6

    Rest the Steak

Once cooked to your liking, remove the steak from the pan and let it rest on a cutting board for about 5-10 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute.

Serving

  1. 7

    Plate the Steak

Slice the steak against the grain and serve it on a plate. Optionally, garnish with a sprig of fresh rosemary and a lemon wedge for added flavor.
