Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Peel and Cut Potatoes

Peel the Russet potatoes and cut them into uniform chunks, about 1-2 inches in size to ensure even cooking.

  2. 2

    Boil Potatoes

Place the potato chunks in a large pot and cover with cold water. Add 1 tsp of salt. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to a simmer. Cook until the potatoes are fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.

Mashing

  1. 3

    Drain Potatoes

Once the potatoes are cooked, drain them well in a colander, allowing any excess water to evaporate.

  2. 4

    Mash Potatoes

Return the drained potatoes to the pot. Add 4 tbs of unsalted butter and 0.5 cups of heavy cream. Use a potato masher or a ricer to mash the potatoes to your desired consistency.

  3. 5

    Season

Add 0.5 tsp of black pepper and more salt to taste. Mix well to incorporate the seasonings.

Garnishing

  1. 6

    Garnish (Optional)

If desired, finely chop 2 tbs of chives and sprinkle over the mashed potatoes for a fresh, herbaceous finish.

  2. 7

    Serve

Spoon the mashed potatoes into a serving dish and serve hot alongside your favorite main courses.
