Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Season the Filet Mignon

Take the 6 oz Filet Mignon and pat it dry with a paper towel. This helps to create a good sear. Season both sides liberally with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.

  2. 2

    Heat the Pan

In a large skillet or frying pan, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat until it's hot but not smoking.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Sear the Steak

Carefully place the seasoned Filet Mignon in the hot skillet. Sear for 4-5 minutes on one side without moving it, allowing a crust to form.

  2. 4

    Flip the Steak

Using tongs, flip the steak over and sear for an additional 4-5 minutes for medium-rare, or adjust the time based on your preferred doneness.

  3. 5

    Add Optional Toppings

In the last minute of cooking, add 1 tablespoon of butter and fresh herbs to the pan. Spoon the melted butter over the steak for added flavor.

Resting and Serving

  1. 6

    Rest the Steak

Remove the steak from the skillet and place it on a cutting board. Let it rest for 5-10 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute.

  2. 7

    Serve

Slice the Filet Mignon against the grain and serve immediately, garnished with any remaining butter and herbs from the pan.
