Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Rice

Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak it in water for 30 minutes, then drain.

  2. 2

    Cook the Shrimp

In a large pan, heat 2 tablespoons of cooking oil over medium heat. Add the shrimp and sauté for 3-4 minutes until they turn pink. Remove and set aside.

  3. 3

    Sauté Aromatics

In the same pan, add the remaining oil. Sauté sliced onion until golden brown. Add minced garlic, ginger, and chopped green chilies and cook for another 2-3 minutes.

  4. 4

    Add Tomato and Spices

Add chopped tomato, biryani masala, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft, around 3-4 minutes.

  5. 5

    Combine Shrimp, Rice, and Water

Return the cooked shrimp to the pan. Add the soaked and drained basmati rice carefully. Pour in 4 cups of water and add cilantro and lemon juice. Stir gently.

  6. 6

    Cook the Biryani

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the pan with a tight lid and let it cook for 20 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed.

  7. 7

    Serve

Fluff the biryani gently with a fork and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with extra cilantro if desired.
