Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Mixtures

Create a well in the center of the flour mixture and add the activated yeast mixture, yogurt, and olive oil. Mix until a sticky dough forms.

  4. 4

    Knead Dough

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    First Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.

Baking

  1. 6

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to the highest setting. If using a clay oven, ensure it's adequately heated.

  2. 7

    Shape Naan

Punch down the risen dough and divide it into equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball, then flatten it into an oval or tear shape about 1/4 inch thick.

  3. 8

    Add Toppings

Brush each naan with melted butter, then sprinkle sesame seeds and chopped cilantro on top.

  4. 9

    Bake Naan

Place the naan on a baking sheet or directly in the preheated clay oven. Bake for 5-7 minutes until puffy and golden brown.

  5. 10

    Finish and Serve

Remove the naan from the oven, brush with additional melted butter, and serve warm.
